A Complete POT Campaign from One Specialist Team

A pull-out test (POT) campaign verifies how proposed steel foundations behave in actual site conditions before or during utility-scale PV construction. Subject to the client’s approved procedure, our scope can combine the equipment and personnel normally sourced from several subcontractors.

Testing is executed to the client, tracker manufacturer or engineer’s approved procedure. Foundation design or certification is included only when expressly defined in the contracted engineering scope.

What the Testing Establishes

POT and pile-load testing provide field data for the tracker supplier, EPC, foundation engineer and geotechnical consultant to assess pile/profile selection, embedment assumptions and construction performance. During each load step, the team records the applied load, holding period and corresponding movement. Pass/fail conclusions are reported only when the client supplies the applicable acceptance criteria.

Driveability trials

Trial piles can document depth, driving time, refusal, difficult ground, deformation, installation observations and the suitability of proposed profiles and embedment depths.

Auger predrilling

Our auger capability supports pilot holes, hard-ground assistance and alternative methods where direct driving encounters refusal.

Pile extraction

The extractor kit supports removal of test, rejected or incorrectly installed piles, replacement works and temporary-foundation removal.

Engineering-Ready POT Reporting

Depending on the client’s specification, reports can include test identification and coordinates, pile profile and embedment, ground and driving observations, equipment and calibration references, test direction, load increments, holding periods, displacement readings, maximum and residual displacement, load-displacement graphs, photographs, supplied acceptance criteria and conclusions.

What does POT mean in solar construction?

POT means Pull-Out Test. It is a field pile-load test used to measure foundation response to specified uplift and, where required, lateral, compression or inclined loads.

Can you install the test piles and perform the tests?

Yes. Subject to scope and site conditions, the same team can install trial piles, perform driveability observations, predrill, test, extract and report.

Can you follow a tracker manufacturer’s procedure?

Yes. Testing is planned against the approved client or manufacturer procedure, pile drawings, test matrix, load steps, holding times and acceptance criteria supplied for the project.

Do you provide POT reports?

Yes. The reporting format and deliverables are agreed before mobilisation and can include test data, graphs, photographs, equipment records, observations and conclusions.

Can you mobilise outside East Africa?

Yes, subject to equipment logistics, permits, programme and project scope. Send the project location and specification so the team can assess mobilisation.
